Military Divorce v. Divorce

Although the proceedings of going through a divorce are similar for most cases, there are some issues that may arise while someone is actively serving in the military. There are some protections that are granted to an active duty service member that a civilian is not entitled to.

Some of the questions that may come up in a divorce proceeding are:

-What state or Court would have jurisdiction? Would it be the state that the service member maybe stationed at or
would it in the state where the non-service member resides? If not in the same state.
-How do you go about serving someone who is currently serving overseas or deployed during a time of war?
-What protections are available for active duty service members who are currently deployed?
-How military benefits and retirement are divided?
-How does divorce affect visitation, legal decision maker/custody and child Support?
